Gents of Ghetto Force and all of our other readers. Although I withhold my opinion for the time being, there's quite a buzz in the world of College Ultimate (at least in the Men's area).
For those of you that haven't heard yet, Cultimate, foremost host to the nation's top Ultimate tournaments, has issued a statement (albeit fairly vague for the time being) regarding an Elite level college Ultimate conference.
Although players, coaches, alum, and everyone else in tune with the Ultimate world has been chiming in over the last 24 hours - no matter your initial take, it's awesome to see this sort of dialogue. All I am saying is, it's important to know what's going on in the Ultimate world. Whether you think this is a step forward or a step towards a schism in Ultimate, do some reading and figure out what you think.
For the time being, most would concede that updates and forums from Cultimate and UPA will likely come soon to address questions and concerns. However, for Ghetto Forcers heading North to Milwaukee this weekend, were somehow (if by nothing more than timing and coincidence) heading directly into the firestorm by attending Cultimate's No Wisconsiquences this Saturday and Sunday. Click the pictures to get some direct links to sources that are abuzz on everything going on!!
Also, if you have thoughts (current players, alumni, etc.) please feel free to throw your input into the comments section!

This is definitely big news. How it will shape up, we can only guess at this point.
I think it's good to get officials involved in the sport. Spirit of the game lasts only so long when it gets really competitive. Too many abuse the system when important games are on the line.
Also, it's good to see a meaningful regular season. While all the invitationals are fun, and definitely good for improving your game, the vast majority of our season means little compared to the series. How Ghetto Force performs at the series is all that matters in the long run.
The problem with this all, of course, is for teams like us. Not notorious for being a regional power house, but definitely a possible cinderella story in the making.
My biggest question is whether this will conflict with the UPA series. Will the top teams play in both series? Or will Cultimate force these upper teams into a contract that forbids them from participating in any UPA affiliated tournament?
I think this is definitely a step forward that the stagnant UPA would never make. This kind of move was bound to happen eventually.
I just don't want the UPA College series to become equivalent to the Division III National Invitational Tournament of the past few years, and not be looked upon as a legitimate tournament.
I think this format would have been much more appropriate for the club division. I can see Cultimate's approach in that college ultimate is probably easier to market to the general public, but college teams vary from year to year too much to be able to safely say who should be in conference 1.
Unfortunately, our prime years of Ghetto Force looks to have fallen onto some unstable years in the Ultimate world. I think in the future, Cultimate will grow into more conferences, with more teams, and gives schools like us a better chance of competing for a national title, but until then, we might be out of luck.
