Sectionals 2009 Recap

Ghetto entered Sectionals after participating in two of the nation's premier ultimate tournaments, College Terminius and College Easterns. UD performed admirably at these tournaments with wins over several notable squads and close losses to national qualifying teams Pittsburg, Tuffs, Georgia, and Williams.

Sectionals as it turned out was a bit of a cake-walk marathon. Sectionals consisted of 6 pool play games before reseeding into a championship bracket of four teams. Ghetto's 15 man roster left little room for rest or injury, but was up for the challenge after a winter full of 5 day-a-week workouts. Ghetto has never been in better shape. With the exception of Louisville, who was disqualified for non-rostered players who do not attend Louisville, competition in pool B was sparse. Ghetto rolled through pool B.

The team spent the evening at the Foor's residence where we received five star amenities. Sunday brought a second straight day of excellent weather, unheard of amongst Ohio Sectionals participants. As usual Dayton got off to a slow start defeating Ohio University 12-11. OU put forth a tremendous game, with off the charts handler movement. The key to the game was Ghetto's superior conditioning, athleticism, and zone-thrashing. Good decision making had little to do with this victory.

Ghetto and Ohio State University traded points for a majority of the game. O.S.U was clearly the best team we met at sectionals and showed its athleticism and depth with numerous subs. As expected The Mark Anderson Show, a key player, severely sprained his ankle halfway through the match stifling ghetto's defensive abilities. O.S.U took the lead and Ghetto could not recover.

After losing the championship game Ghetto played Miami Ohio for second place. Several disputes with "Visor Boy" later, UD finished victorious. Ghetto held second seed and began preparations for Regionals.
